I'm still here

Just a brief update, I guess.

I only post here once in a great while, and I know that most of the people who I followed here don't, for the most part. To bring people up to speed, I deleted my Facebook and my Instagram because of the rise of terrible ads, bots, AI slop, and fascist Moms for Liberty/TERF-y shit and other tradwife-fluencer content that always flowed rampantly into my feed. I also felt like I was always under surveillance by my coworkers when I would post updates or photos, like an insidious grownup version of Elf on a Shelf. It was difficult finding the off switch for both accounts, because Meta hides it deeply within its sub-menus to make it hard to leave. I highly recommend getting off of Facebook. It's cleansing, and my mental health has improved considerably.

Well. Mind you. I'm still a mess. But I feel like a less paranoid mess.

I have a Bluesky account that I use to watch and read news and to follow other artists and crafters. I still have a Pillowfort that I will share artwork on once in a while, and a Cara app account on my phone that is also for art. I dumped my old Twitter back when Musk first threatened that he was buying it and I never looked back.

I still write fanfiction for catharsis and to a certain extent, for connection. I'm going to back away from the MCU slightly this year and delve back into my old fandoms, like Archie Comics, X-Men comicsverse, and Smallville. I don't like the direction that Marvel/Disney has gone with some of the recent films and the projects that featured minority characters that they decided to shelve, even though they were either near completion or already had their funding greenlit. Their lack of promotion for some of those properties with diverse casts and themes has also been appalling. It gets old.

The other plan for this year is to try to finish my associate's degree in nutrition and food science, and to apply for grad school. I'm worried I might not succeed in the latter, but life is short, and it's self-defeating to be afraid. I'm going to be working on art and costumes, too, and hopefully be attending more small conventions.

This is the second to last chapter of my Clintasha fic that I wrote back in 2020 as a price in the Charity Hawktion auction for my winner, Kalika99. It's a friends to lovers, When Harry Met Sally-esque college AU. Clint and Nat are best friends, and she is constantly coming to his rescue when they are kids. As they grow up, he also starts coming to her rescue, they frequently bail each other out of messy situations with old hookups and exes, and they eventually realize that they have always been in love.

I have no urge to watch Doomsday when it comes out, and I have been falling out of love with the MCU franchise since Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and Endgame. This is a WinterHawk piece I wrote for my winning bidders, oper_1895 and stillcentre. It hasn't gotten very much traction or engagement, so it might end up being my last fic that I write for this pairing. Sometimes, things just don't hit, and I get it, but it hurts your feelings when you put the work in for a chaptered story with an actual plot, and it just lies in the dustballs while people who post tag-dump piles of drabbles or list every character who so much as sneezes just for exposure, page hits and clout get all the traffic.

The "fantasy" aspect of this story isn't that the characters have powers (they don't), but that we are pretending that anti-miscegenation laws were magically ignored just because the characters were in love.

I don't know if I ever even posted this here (I probably did). This is my Ororo/Logan interracial romance story from the late fifties, early sixties. Opposites attract is the trope, and it's a pretty standard enemies to friends to lovers trope, too, where Logan and Ororo pretty much detest each other (or at least, she didn't like him) from middle school going forward, until Logan ends up needing help in three different subjects so he can keep playing ball. Ororo is nerdy and brilliant and SO DONE with his shit, until she isn't. Basically, that's it. I liked delving into this universe because I'm borrowing from my own parents' experiences as teens during that time period.

I never post here anymore, because it's like shouting down into a well. I'm still out here, I'm still on AO3, I'm still on Tumblr and Instagram, and I have a Bluesky account, now, too, because after waiting months for an access link, I can finally post there (to crickets).

I hope this new year is finding y'all in good health and safe circumstances. The world is a trash fire right now. I hope life is kind to you, and you have the time, space, and muse to enjoy fandom and putting your blorbos into situations as we always have.

I just updated a very niche fanfic that was inspired by my friend Gothabilly's thruple piece that she wrote called "The Jotunn Thaw." Seriously. Loki/X-Men crossover. You wouldn't think that would work, but somehow, it does.

I started beta-ing that story of hers, and it inspired me to write my own story with the same OT3, Loki/Logan/Remy. Except, mine is a cheesy sugar daddy/bakery AU.

I think Logan/Remy Lebeau/Loki is the rairest rairpair I have ever heard of, and basically, I'm here for it.

I want to give this some exposure. With a pairing this rare, you know that no one is gonna see it come up in the AO3 search engine because the tags for it aren't common yet.

They finished breakfast and set the dishes aside before stomping outside into the frosty morning. Gorgeous. The sunrise threw furious, rich streaks of orange-gold and scarlet across the sky. Frost sparkled on the grass and leaves across the yard. Steve’s breath caught; it hit him, then. This was his. This was his mother’s legacy and his inheritance, his responsibility, not merely a deed to be signed away to George Barnes. If he failed - no. No, he couldn’t. Not for Billy’s sake, nor for his own. Other businesses relied on the goods that he grew and sold, and Steve felt a sense of belonging in his community. He had nowhere to go if he lost the farm.

And it wasn’t as though he could just summon another convenient marriage prospect out of thin air.

“Sometimes, I wish you had said ‘I do’ to that Barnes fellow, after all.”

Billy’s words jerked Steve from his reveries as they entered the barn. “What’s that?”

“Could have been living like a toff, married to him,” Billy explained. “Especially if he has money like Barton.”

“Like Bucky?” Steve scoffed, brow furrowed. “Who knows how much money that would have even been? And who knows how it would have been, married to my landlord’s son!”

“Easier, no doubt.”
